On May 17th, China BIM Union issued <Notice on Relevant Matters of the Tenth China BIM Union Advanced Seminar and the Second Session China BIM Good Data Competition> (BIM Union Letter [2020] No. 7), which confirmed the participating groups’(teams’) list and the mock competition’s schedule. The creative competition is scheduled to be extended until July 21st of the year 2020. The seminar will be held either offline or online through learning and competition formats depending on the national epidemic situation management and control requirements at that time. For making participating teams and the juries can gradually adapt to the new competition mechanism of this session's competition, online mock competitions will be held after May 20th; based on the results of the mock competition, the juries will determine the process and method regarding to the final competition that is held online, also the assessment criteria can be adjusted based on the situation.

On May 20th, the first phase tasks of the Second Session <China BIM Good Data> mock competition was officially released to 15 teams (see the appendix for the details of the mock competition’s tasks). On May 21st, the mock competition’s online Q&A meeting was successfully held, about 90 members from 15 teams involved the online meeting and made discussions; each team introduced themselves and questioned mock competition’s tasks, and jury panel gave answers to each questions individually. According to the schedule of the mock competition, each group(team) must complete and submit their first stage’s tasks before June 19th.

The juries are divided into frontstage group and backstage group. The online Q&A session held on the 21st , the panel consists Hao XU (member of “7th Chinese BIM Advanced Seminar”, the president of Shanghai BiMu Construction Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., Tier-1 Registered Cost Engineer, Tier-1 Registered Construction Engineer, Senior Engineer) and Ming XIANG (member of “1st Advanced Seminar”. The director of the BIM Engineering Technology Center of Tianjin Architectural Design Institute, Tier-1 Registered Cost Engineer, Senior Engineer). After the session, on May 25th, the jury panel formally reply those relevant questions regarding to sheets and scopes through writing formats.

During the online Q&A session, Qiang HUANG, the president of China BIM Union, gave a report on <Creation and Application of BIM Mathematical Models>, which elaborated through six aspects: the mathematical and graphical methods of BIM, CDM individuals in BIM mathematical models, CDM individual coordinates and classification, CDM individual surfaces, CDM individual internal and connection properties, CDM standards and applications. Videos are demonstrating simulations of 3D, 4D, and 5D regarding to engineering projects based on CDM standards; the advantages of BIM mathematical methods are emphasized: the physical concepts is simple and clear, easy to understand; simple in description of the data formats(easy to promote), advantage in data storage method(easy to retrieve); wide in application and strong in extension.

The two-stage exercise tasks of this session's mock competition are set to explore how to build a mathematical model as the true core of BIM. It is similar with the basic idea of the discrete finite element method of the whole region. The objects (continuous solution domain) are separated and combined by discrete dimensionality reduction to achieve the analysis of the entire object; each team will complete the four parts: Quantification, Modification, Rebar Processing, Schedule Simulations. Objectively compare the current BIM, Quantification, and relevant software with the adoption of CDM platform in Computational Efficiency, Accurate Quantification, Modelling Method, Schedule Simulations, Data Value, and other technical contents in a comprehensive way. The results are presented and analysed through a quantified assessment way.

Sincerely welcome and encourage each province-level association and societies, BIM alliance organizations, colleges and universities, and relevant companies to complete the mock competition based on requirements; for organizations and companies who submit results on time will gain the rights to share the outcomes of the mock competition and the final competition .

Appendix: Second Session<China BIM Good Data> Mock Competition First Stage Tasks

First、Quantification (Mark A) Specification

1. Quantification results based on sheets (Table 1);

2. List all the Rebar in each floor (Table 2);

3.List Quantity of Concrete based on <Code of valuation with bill quantity of construction works> (GB50500-2013) (Table 3);

4.List quantity of formwork based on< Code of valuation with bill quantity of construction works> (GB50500-2013).

5.Submission of Structure Schedule Simulation Video (Include Foundation)

Above 1-5, each group(team) must submit the first stage results before June 19th, any delay will be withdraw from final.
In the final competition, above content shall be completed within a day and half.
Each team need to notify the team members and the time consumed. Meanwhile have to submit the name of software used in first stage and the outcome database.
